SURAKARTA CITY, INDONESIA - 29 APRIL 2015
Hundreds of professional dancers have celebrated World Dance Day at a 24-hour event on Slamet Riyadi protocol street in Surakarta City, Central Java, Indonesia on April 29, 2015.
First established in 1982, World Dance Day was created by the International Dance Council as an opportunity for countries to recognise their unique history of dance, as well as to encourage the public to engage in traditional and contemporary styles.
The ninth year of the event in Surakarta City served as a showcase for Javanese dance and included a performance of Tari: Navas dan Kehidupan (Dance: Breath and Life).
Up to 3,500 dancers from 129 groups were expected to have participated in events across the country, according to the Jakarta Post.
