I'm writing to share with you the World Dance Day activities that I've
planned for Sydney, Australia.
As a CID member I have organised a special event in celebrating World Dance
day 2013. It has become an annual celebration in my dance schools calendar.
Here are some photos of students who are helping to put together inspiring
performances. We are also in the process of speaking with some local
musicians who may want to contribute by performing on the night.
We have promoted World Dance Day through our website, facebook network and
have approached local media for their support. We are also giving out
invitations so new members of the public can join us on this special day.

The Ausdance network celebrates and promotes dance in all its forms every
year during Australian Dance Week. The dates for the opening and closing of
Australian Dance Week vary slightly from state to state according to local
events, it offically commences on 29th April to coincide with International
Dance Day. Each state and territory of Ausdance coordinates a variety of
events from book launches and forums to free performances and community
classes and encourages its dance community to promote their own activities
throughout the week. Contact your local Ausdance.

Judith Chestnut

DANCE instructor Franzesca Mimi wants to improve the lives of everyone - a dance at a time.
She wants us to go to The Freeway Hotel in Artarmon for World Dance Day on Sunday, April 29.
A non-profit organisation, the International Dance Council, began World Dance Day in 1982.
Mrs Mimi, a member of the UNESCO World Dance Council, hosts the event to convey the message that dance is for everyone.
She said people who have autism and others who are lonely are among those to benefit from her regular tango classes in Artarmon and Lane Cove.
“There are a lot of people who are alone and by coming into dance they feel somewhere they belong,” she said.
“Dancing is a release of emotions.”
“When music and dance come together, it takes us to another stage, which makes us actually happy.”
Guests are invited to dress in their national costume to celebrate the diversity of dancing in different cultures.

In conjunction with Lake Light Sculpture and the active dance network of New South Wales, we celebrated World Dance Day along the foreshore of Lake Jindabyne at the foothills of the Snowy Mountains NSW. The celebration extended over several days with visits to many of the outdoor sculpture exhibitions from previous years and at home events with family and friends. By combining preparations for the Water Dances event with studio practices during the next few months, we are well on the way to celebrating Dance Day next year with energy and enthusiasm. To find out more about Lake Light Sculpture please visit www.lakelightsculpture.com.au.
