In 1980, the Sydney Opera House staged a gala tribute celebrating the dance careers of Xenia Borovansky and her husband, Edouard Borovansky. The programme consisted of excerpts from the ballets; Pineapple Poll, Schéhérazade, and Graduation Ball. Today, the next generation of Borovansky dancers are trained by the dedicated teachers of the Australian Institute of Classical Dance.
The president of the national committee of the institute invites past and present members to visit the institute’s website www.ballet.org.auand view the picture gallery of dancers who have successfully passed through the Borovansky syllabus and exams.
In keeping with the spirit of the 2016 Dance Day message from Alkis Raftis, and while aspiring to be a better artist, I invite professional resident artists of New South Wales to hold an exhibition in their studio, gallery or website that is curated with the art of classical dance in mind. By sending expressions of interest in the Dance Day message and information about curated exhibitions to the CID headquarters in Paris, artists in my home state can join the celebration of art and creativity that dancers and their family and friends have been enjoying since the early 1980’s.
