Dance concert based on Poetry, Classical and Folk dance Performance
for the welfare of farmer’s families affected by severe drought in Marathawada region.
At Devmudraa, we believe
“Dance can empower individuals and communities.
Theatre is a force that can unite, uplift, teach and build communities,
Inspire, and heal.”
For quite some time, we at Devmudraa have been concerned about the arts being regarded as "elitist", accessible to a privileged few. We believe there is a correlation between shrinking audiences for the arts and an increase in the "disconnect" between artist and community. We see ourselves not just as an arts organization but also as a community outreach and arts development institute.
We are organizing a dance concert for the welfare of the affected farmer families from the Aurangabad district. A fund raising classical dance and folk dance program based on art and culture of the state of Maharashtra by more than 30 artistes, most of them dance students belonging to similar social background. We propose to provide monetary support to the farmer families at risk with this fund raising event comprising of three dance drama productions, selected pieces from each woven into one three hour cultural program, initially in Aurangabad on 30th April, and then in Pune, Mumbai, Hyderabad and other cities in the coming months
We being member of International dance council, UNESCO, Paris and 29th April being International dance day, we celebrate dance by doing our bit. Our aim is to bring dance close to everyone and also using arts for a cause.
The three Dance drama Productions to be performed woven into a beautiful three hour dance rhapsody “Maha Rang”.
1."Three Earths" - present few poems from our dance theatre ensemble "three earths" based on poetry written on farmer, by Ramdas V Pawar.
2. "Vithal Tukayacha" - A unique dance drama in Bharatanatyam based on poetry of Sant Tukaram ( Tukaram was a 17th-century poet-saint of the Bhakti movement in Maharashtra) it is a tribute to him, the common man, a poet and a visionary. This show has been performed twelve times since its premiere in the year 2012 in Aurangabad, Latur, Hyderabad, Chennai & Indore.
3. 'Maharang" - A colourful ensemble of Maharashtra’s folklore including songs and dance, an authentic mix of folk arts, a tribute to the people of Maharashtra and its culture. It was premiered in Indore on 26th January 2016
All the above two dance drama & ensembles are written, conceptualized and directed by Ramdas V Pawar (An educationist, writer and artist) & choreographed by V Soumyasri (an eminent Kuchipudi & Bharatanatyam danseuse, choreographer and research scholar.
Performed by V Soumyasri & Devmudraa group, Aurangabad
The organizers, dancers and volunteers are working hard to make it happen and their bit for the farmers. For the said endeavour we need your support. We request all to come and attend the show in large numbers on 30th April, at 6 pm at Tapadiya Natya Mandir.
Also there will be donation boxes at various places and venue; one can donate whatever amount they can and support us in this endeavour. We will recognize the immediate needy farmer families and invite them to the show and donate whatever funds we have generated through the show.
Also we have started online crowd funding campaign through which we will request our friends abroad and in other places of the country. This initiative of crowd funding is being done for the first time in Aurangabad for a social cause. Please visit the site and share it with your friends and also donate.
