And this year we acknowledge the official message of International Dance Council CID as they join forces with the World Food Program WFP and the Government of the Principality of Monaco to create Dance to Zero Hunger, a project promoting healthy eating through dance and education. Participating schools will create choreography focusing on the importance of food security and achieving zero hunger, that will be showcased in celebrations of International Dance Day (29 April) and World Food Day (16 October). WPF, CID and UNESCO will launch their partnership with a media campaign and an event in Paris.
The project will promote food security, educate children about the importance of healthy eating, provide vocational opportunities and advocate for achieving zero hunger, through dance.
Penang Dance Day 2017 would like us to consider to bring people together through dance and not only to advocate ZERO HUNGER in the world but also to create a living well and healthy lifestyle that spreads peace and harmony on our island.
COME Make your day free and join a full day of dancing and watch dance works presented by some of our own exciting Penang dancers and celebrate the day as we share with you the POWER of dance to impact change.

MORE ABOUT INTERNATIONAL DANCE DAY:
More information on the International Dance Day can be found here
http://www.international-dance-day.org/en/danceday.html
On the 29th of April, as every year since 1982, Dance Day will be celebrated all over the world by the international community of dancers and dance enthusiasts. The day is initiated and celebrated through promotion by the Dance Committee of the International Dance Council CID, UNESCO in Paris.
The goals are to increase awareness of the importance of dance and attract the attention of the wider public, to the art of dance, as well as to persuade governments all over the world to provide a proper place for dance in all systems of education. About Coordinator of PENANG DANCE DAY:
Independent Performing Artist, Choreographer, Dance-ACTivist
Aida Redza is a performer, choreographer and educator advocating her artistic works independently towards community and outreach missions specifically for young people. As a teacher she believes that movement, dance and expressive arts as methods of education and fitness should engage social inclusion and unity, and a way to reach out to a wider public. As an artist, her solo works are a visible example of tight bound tradition, deconstruction and new dance process performance. She is known as one of the most intense and controversial performer in Malaysia, exploring the relationship between dream, rebellious play and resistance, and revolution of sorts from the perspective of a Muslim woman. Today she is keen to work on interdisciplinary collaborations as well as creating group works based on the principles of chance happenings and performance intervention with urban community and spaces commenting on social, gender and environmental issues that could stir change. She is also concern with health and mental wellness of people and the need for creative process and practice to be accessible to all, as means to advocate against social exclusion, as well as to promote awareness for peace, unity, and cultural harmony.
