Setting a worthy example

Appeal to journalists to ADHERE TO ETHICS

At a time when the government schools do not celebrate any functions apart from the annual day, the Dhalavaipatti Panchayat Middle School in Pethanayakkanpalayam union in Salem district set a worthy example by celebrating the International Dance Day with much fanfare recently.

International Dance Day was introduced in 1982 by the International Dance Council, a UNESCO-partner NGO.

The main objective of the day is to attract the attention of people towards the art of dance. R. Danalakshmi, headmistress of the school, presided. The students of classes VI, VII and VIII performed various dance art forms to create awareness about the day.

Pattali Makkal Katchi founder S. Ramadoss was sad that ethics were violated in different fields. Pleading with the presspersons to strictly adhere to journalistic ethics, he said that the Election Commission had brought out the details of code of ethics for the press.

Dr. Ramadoss said that the medical profession too had to strictly follow ethics and norms.

He said that when he started practicing as a doctor, there were many restrictions.

The doctors should neither opt for publicity nor advertise their profession. Even the name boards in the clinics / hospitals should be of only the prescribed size.

The violation of ethics had become the order of day in every field, he lamented.

Abdul Wahid, who came to file his nomination as an independent, gave some anxious moments to the poll officials of Salem North Assembly constituency, when they refused to accept his nomination papers due to various discrepancies.

When Wahid came to file the papers for Omalur constituency, he informed the officials that he had brought only Re. One to pay the deposit and promised to pay the rest of the amount after the elections are over.

Taken aback by this, the officials refused to receive the application and directed him to submit the form after filling it up properly with the Returning Officer of Omalur constituency. Alleging indifferent attitude of the official machinery towards independent candidates, Wahid staged a dharna in front of the office of the Returning Officer. The officials pacified him following which he went.

Meanwhile, Varadarajan, VAO, preferred a complaint against Wahid with the Salem Town Police stating that he prevented the government officials from discharging their duty.
